5 years agoNew York Yankees first baseman Luke Voit is reportedly in the best shape of his life after recovering from core surgery this offseason. Plenty of players report being in unusually great shape coming into spring training, but it's significant that Voit feels good. Core injuries pushed Voit’s hard-hit rate down to a career-worst 89.7 mph last year, significantly hampering the power hitter’s production to the tune of a .263/.378/.464 slash line. Voit will need his home-run (4.1%) and extra-base hit (8.4%) rates to bounce back if he wants to beat out Miguel Andujar and Mike Ford for the starting first base job with the Yankees. Getting back to full health is a plus and Voit can be useful for his power, but the uncertain playing time will be a hit to his overall fantasy value.--Sam Chinitz
