Tommy Pham Battling Side Soreness
5 years agoSan Diego Padres outfielder Tommy Pham is dealing with side soreness, per manager Jayce Tingler. Pham has yet to play in spring training and is considered day-to-day, but there’s no apparent link to his absence and the elbow issue he experienced last season. The 31-year-old played through a partially torn UCL in 2019 but still appeared in 145 games, registering a solid 121 wRC+ across 654 plate appearances. He underwent therapy this offseason. Until anything alarming develops, we can assume the Friars are letting the veteran take things slowly in the early days of camp. Drafted as a top-20 outfielder with legitimate five category abilities, Pham should be a stalwart atop the Padres lineup all season.
