Giancarlo Stanton Has Grade 1 Calf Strain
5 years agoNew York Yankees outfielder Giancarlo Stanton (calf) has a Grade 1 calf strain. Manager Aaron Boone didn't give much information on Stanton's timeline, but it seems unlikely that Stanton will be ready for Opening Day. Stanton only managed to play in 18 games last year as he battled a variety of injuries, but he's still a premier power hitter when healthy with a 93.7 mph average exit velocity and .457 xwOBA on contact in 2018. There's some injury risk already built in to Stanton's 51 average draft position, but fantasy owners should wait for more details on this injury before drafting him at this point. If he's not ready for the start of the season, it could be good news for any one of Miguel Andujar, Clint Frazier or Mike Tauchman, mainly in the designated hitter spot.
