Jordan Montgomery Claims Rotation Job
5 years agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery is reportedly in line to start for the team this season. Injuries opened up a rotation spot for Montgomery, and he’s claimed it with a strong spring so far and an encouraging rookie year. Montgomery missed most of the past two seasons while recovering from Tommy John surgery, but in 2017 posted a solid 3.88 ERA over 155 1/3 innings. So far in spring training, Montgomery has seen his fastball velocity tick up over his pre-Tommy John velocity while striking out an impressive 15.8 batters per nine innings. It’s too early to expect Montgomery’s velocity increase to be maintained through the season, but his spring performance has been encouraging and should have fantasy owners expecting an ERA below 4.00 this year.
