Roberto Perez Ready To Take Next Step
5 years agoCleveland Indians catcher Roberto Perez (ankle) is coming into the 2020 season feeling healthy and energized. Perez had offseason surgery to remove bone spurs in his right ankle and hopes to improve on last year's breakout season. “So far by hitting and catching, my movement is a lot better, my range of motion is much better," Perez stated. I’m glad the way it came out. I still have to trust it. … But I think it’s going to be a game-changer for me." Pérez’s 24 homers were more than he had hit in his previous five big league seasons combined. He also won a Rawlings Gold Glove for his defensive efforts. He should be in line for a heavy workload in 2020 and his batted-ball profile suggests his uptick in power is somewhat sustainable. If you decide to wait on a catcher in your draft, Perez is serviceable and could be a nice cheap source of power.
