Collin McHugh Optimistic About His Status For Start Of Season
4 years agoBoston Red Sox pitcher Collin McHugh (elbow) could be ready to go for the start of the season after recovering from an elbow injury during the shutdown. The 33-year-old signed a one-year deal with the Red Sox in early March but did not pitch in any spring training games as a result of his forearm flexor strain. “I feel pretty comfortable moving forward from here,” McHugh said on Friday, but mentioned that it's too early to predict what role he will take on during the shortened season. The veteran made eight starts for the Astros in 2019 and posted a 4.70 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 82 strikeouts through 74 2/3 innings between the rotation and bullpen. If McHugh is to join the Red Sox rotation, the right-hander will be worth monitoring in AL-only formats in starts against favorable opponents during the upcoming campaign.
