LCS DFS Picks for 7/5/20 - League of Legends Daily Fantasy for DraftKings, FanDuel

Hello there, LoL enthusiasts, and welcome back to RotoBaller's coverage of LCS for the Summer split on FanDuel and DraftKings.

I hope everyone had a great holiday yesterday.  Things went about as expected yesterday except for our underdog play DIG lost to 100T.  DIG probably could have won if they didn't have a couple of stupid plays in the mid-game that cost them the game.  Let's get into today's four-gamer.

Today I'll be bringing you my League of Legends advice, analysis, and picks, for the four-game LCS slate on FanDuel and DraftKings that locks on Saturday, July 4th, at 4:00 PM. Feel free to follow me on Twitter @Governor98. Thanks for reading, now let's get to the strategy and picks!

League of Legends DFS Basics

Since LCS contests are being offered on both FanDuel and DraftKings, it's important to note some pricing discrepancies from site to site, but the roster slots, scoring, and roster construction rules are almost entirely identical with the only exception being that FanDuel forces you to roster at least one player (or team slot) from a third team, while you can play only two teams among your seven roster slots on DraftKings.

  1. Stacking in LoL DFS lineups is very important. 4-3 stacks are the order of the day (on DraftKings) with 3-3-1 becoming more popular (and necessary on FanDuel) as people try to differentiate their lineups in these suddenly large-field GPPs.
  2. In LoL DFS, it is very important to focus on players from winning teams. Think in terms of baseball, one side of the matchup is like a pitcher and the other side the batter. This means there is a very negative correlation between teams in the same match. Players score by accumulating kills, which costs the other side points in deaths. Just like earned runs bring down your pitcher’s score.
  3. Along with this another mistake I see beginners making is trusting average scoring. Players' scoring potential is only realized in games that are won. If player X averages 50 DKP, that likely comes from scoring 70 in a 2-0 win and 30 in an 0-2 defeat. What this means is that someone who looks like a value at $4800 suddenly might not end up being such a great point-per-dollar play.
  4. Finally, you're going to want to do your best you fill your captain slot with an ADC or MID. Depending on which teams and players you decide to stack that might not be feasible. The order of preference for your captain slot is generally ADC, MID, JNG, TOP, SUP. Some players in some positions may stand out above the others so consider stats like kill share before you make your final decision.

Game 1: C9 (-1600) vs. DIG

The only decision here is how much C9 you want to play. DIG is winless this split and Cloud9 has yet to lose. The one won't be close and the only reason to fade C9 in this spot is to hope that they win this one in 20 minutes.

Top C9 plays: Blaber, Nisqy, Zven, Licorice, Vulcan, C9 team.

Game 2: TL (-130) vs. FLY

This should be another great game. These are two of the top five teams that will be battling all split to get their shot at C9 in the finals. FLY is coming off of an impressive win against EG yesterday and although TL beat IMT it was not a very clean game and TL was seconds from losing in the base race. I like FLY to take this one here. They looked very strong yesterday and I have a lot more faith in them beating Liquid then the other way around. If FLY wins I expect big scores from PowerOfEvil and Santorin. On the other side if TL wins expect a huge game from Tactical.

Top FLY plays: PowerOfEvil, Santorin, Solo, Mash, IgNar, FLY team

Top TL plays: Tactical, Jensen, CoreJJ, Broxah, Impact, TL team

Game 3: CLG vs. TSM (-200)

The oldest rivalry in LCS history plays its latest chapter here. CLG and TSM have been rivals for ages and although there aren't any older players playing in this one except Bjergsen, and Doublelift (who was originally on CLG) this one should still be a good one. TSM has looked more like a team to start this split than they have in a while. CLG, although sometimes impressive, I'm not sure has the talent to make noise against the top teams. I expect TSM to win here. I like all the usual suspects to help carry TSM to a win.

Top TSM play: Doublelift, Bjergsen, Spica, BrokenBlade, Biofrost, TSM Team

Game 4: EG (-475) vs. IMT

Both of these teams are coming off of losses. IMT looked good against TL but couldn't close the game and lost in a base race. EG lost a tough game against another top team in FLY but they should bounce back here. I like EG to take this one. IF EG can control this one they could put up monster numbers as they usually do in their wins. I expect Jizuke to be a huge part of the win as well as Bang. This could be a good end to the weekend if all goes as planned.

Top EG plays: Jizuke, Bang, Svenskeren, Zeyzal, Kumo, EG Team

Summary:

  1. Favorite stacks: C9, EG, TSM, FLY
  2. I really like FLY today even though they are slight underdog as of this morning.
  3. Players are listed in the order that I prefer playing them.

On that note, if anyone has any questions or needs some suggestions, feel free to @ me in the Slack.
