4 years agoSan Diego Padres pitching prospects Ryan Weathers and Joey Cantillo will likely be alternate-site starters once the season starts. The team’s No. 9 and 10 prospects, respectively, had little shot of making the big league roster but will stay sharp while tuning up Padres hitters waiting for call-ups. Weathers, 20, posted a 3.84 ERA in 22 starts last season in Single-A with a diverse arsenal ideal for a mid-rotation starter. Cantillo impressed with a 2.26 ERA in 22 starts across Single- and High-A in 2019 but faltered slightly at higher competition. The 20-year-old possesses strong control with upside if he harnesses his secondary pitches.
