Nathan Eovaldi Will Start Season Opener
4 years agoBoston Red Sox pitcher Nathan Eovaldi will get the Opening Day start against the Orioles on July 24, the team announced on Saturday. Eovaldi will become the sixth different Opening Day starter for the Red Sox over the past seven seasons, as injuries and roster moves have forced the team to turn to the 30-year-old right-hander. Eovaldi posted encouraging performances during spring training prior to the shutdown, with totals of eight scoreless innings to go along with 12 strikeouts and just one walk surrendered. Eduardo Rodriguez, who was the expected Opening Day starter leading up to the season, will open the shortened campaign on the 10-day injured list after showing up to camp late due to a positive COVID-19 test. Eovaldi will get an appealing Opening Day match-up against the rebuilding Baltimore Orioles and should be owned across standard fantasy formats as a result.
