Ryan Braun Trending Toward Playing Opening Day
4 years agoMilwaukee Brewers outfielder/first baseman Ryan Braun will serve as the team's designated hitter Wednesday in their exhibition finale versus the White Sox, Todd Rosiak of The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Braun has been battling a number of minor injuries the past few days, with a sore left oblique being the most concerning of the lot. His availability for Wednesday's contest has the veteran trending in a "positive direction" for Friday's Opening Day game against the Cubs, according to his manager Craig Counsell. The universal designated hitter in the National League could extend his career, as he is expected to fill that role this season. He's hit .266/.324/.511 in just 103 career plate appearances as a DH. Braun could see his stock rise a bit if he can see more at-bats as a DH, and his ability to hit for power and average and steal some bases can certainly be appealing for owners late in drafts.
