4 years agoHouston Astros outfielder/designated hitter Yordan Alvarez has been cleared to rejoin baseball activities and will report to the club’s alternate site in Corpus Christi, Texas. The reigning American League Rookie of the Year crash-landed on the scene in 2019 by mashing 27 homers and delivering a 1.067 OPS, but has been sidelined to start the abbreviated 2020 year due to reasons that the organization has not made clear. Depending on how long it takes Alvarez to get in game shape, he could miss upwards of a week’s worth of action, although his arrival is a positive for owners hoping to get his impact bat back at some point in August. For now, Houston figures to continue to utilize Kyle Tucker, who will need to make an impact to maintain a spot in the lineup upon Alvarez’s return.--Jesse Borek
