Vince Velasquez Struggles Vs Marlins
4 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies starting pitcher Vince Velasquez struggled vs the Marlins on Sunday, lasting just three innings and allowing four earned runs. Velasquez struggled with his control, he walked two and hit a batter, but was mainly plagued by the long ball as he served up two homers to waste a 4-0 lead the Phillies offense provided in the first inning. Velasquez was not assured a rotation spot after pitching to a ghastly 5.21 FIP last season and it should be noted top pitching prospect Spencer Howard pitched in a scrimmage at the Phillies alternate site today. Velasquez had success in a bullpen role before so it would be easy for Philadelphia to slide Howard into Velasquez's rotation spot and use the two pitchers in a combo-role. Regardless of his role, Velasquez doesn't hold much value in most fantasy leagues.
