4 years agoNew York Mets left-handed pitcher David Peterson is expected to make his second Major League start Sunday against the Atlanta Braves, following a successful first big league start Tuesday versus Boston. The rookie southpaw has had his path paved by the calf injury to right-hander Marcus Stroman, who continues to work his way back. The Mets have said that they want a clean MRI on Stroman before he can be activated, which isn’t likely to come before Peterson’s next turn through the rotation. The Colorado native yielded seven hits across 5.2 innings with two walks and three strikeouts in his first start, having earned the win. Now, he’ll have to conquer an Atlanta lineup that bludgeoned New York pitching to the tune of 14 runs the last time the two sides met.--Jesse Borek
