4 years agoSan Diego Padres first baseman Eric Hosmer is once again absent from the club’s starting nine for Friday’s game versus the Colorado Rockies. Hosmer is dealing with an illness that is not related to COVID-19, one that has now forced him to miss five of the team’s first eight contests. His absence in a Coors Field game is a major blow to his season-long owners, as Hosmer would have had a prime matchup against Colorado righty Jon Gray. Rookie Jake Cronenworth will hold down first base and hold some upside appeal in DFS due to his affordable price tag and park factor. Hosmer’s next chance to start comes Saturday when the Rockies are expected to send left-hander Kyle Freeland to the hill.--Jesse Borek
