4 years agoNew York Mets right-handed pitcher Dellin Betances had his poorest outing of the season Friday against Atlanta, allowing four earned runs on two hits and two walks while recording just one out. In the wake of the struggles of right-hander Edwin Diaz, it was widely believed that if the Mets were going to make a switch at closer, it would be either Betances or Seth Lugo tabbed with the duties. But behind Betances, Lugo walked a batter and then allowed a bases-clearing double that put the Mets down a run. There are not many reliable options coming out of the New York bullpen at the moment, making it difficult for starters to secure wins moving forward. With Betances and Lugo’s rough showing, Diaz may have a stronghold on the closer’s job for at least the next few games.--Jesse Borek
