Giancarlo Stanton Set To Remain DH For Foreseeable Future
4 years agoNew York Yankees manager Aaron Boone had previously spoken about how he hoped to use the designated hitter to get some of his everyday regulars some time off their feet defensively. But with Giancarlo Stanton having opened 2020 on a tear despite some concerns around his right calf, Boone has decided to stick with Stanton as his full-time DH, saying, “it kind of makes the most sense to go this route.” Stanton entered play Saturday having produced a staggering average exit velocity of 99.1 MPH this season, showing that not playing in the field has had little impact on his offensive abilities. While the door isn’t closed on Stanton playing the outfield this year, expect him to remain fresh by playing as the DH on a nearly nightly basis.
