4 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher David Peterson posted a quality start against the Braves in the Mets' 4-0 loss on Sunday. Peterson (1-1) went six innings allowing five hits, one walk, three earned runs, while impressively striking out eight. With this start and his solid MLB debut against the Red Sox last week, Peterson has now held his own against two potent MLB lineups in his first two MLB starts. Peterson may be making a case to remain in the Mets rotation once Marcus Stroman (leg) returns from the injured list. Michael Wacha and Rick Porcello have been ineffective thus far, with Wacha sporting a 6.00 ERA and Porcello sporting a 13.50 ERA. Peterson looks to be the best option as the Mets fifth starter going forward, given the early returns. In 2019, Peterson went 3-6 with a 4.19 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in 24 starts at Double-A. However, in 2018, over two levels, Peterson posted a solid 3.16 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 115 strikeouts over 128 IP. Further, during 2020 spring training with the Mets, Peterson impressed team officials by posting a 1.50 ERA and striking out six in six innings pitched. Peterson, who now holds a 3.86 ERA, a 1.29 WHIP, and 11 strikeouts over 11 2/3 innings pitched, may be gaining value in deep mixed and NL-only leagues.--Nick Ritrivi - RotoBaller
