Daulton Varsho To Make First Major League Start Tuesday
4 years agoArizona Diamondbacks catcher Daulton Varsho will join the starting nine for the first time in his Major League career Tuesday when he faces Astros right-hander Cristian Javier. While Varsho will serve as the designated hitter, it’s undoubtedly his bat that fantasy owners are interested in as he amassed an .899 OPS at Double-A last season. In addition to the 47 extra-base hits that he compiled in 108 games, he also swiped 21 bases, which was a theme throughout his time in the Minors. Consistent playing time may be tough for Varsho to crack through as Carson Kelly remains the club’s primary catcher, but with the designated hitter slot up for grabs, an impressive showing could make the highly-regarded backstop a commodity in more than just keepers leagues.
