Jake Cronenworth Socks First Major League Homer Tuesday
4 years agoSan Diego Padres first baseman Jake Cronenworth launched the first home run of his Major League career during the fifth inning of Tuesday’s game against the Dodgers. Cronenworth has taken over everyday first base duties with Eric Hosmer (illness) on the injured list and he has been moved up to the No. 5 spot in the batting order. Having already collected two triples in his first five Major League games, the 40 extra-base hits that Cronenworth delivered in 94 games at Triple-A last year are already beginning to translate to the big leagues. While he likely won’t have a starting role once Hosmer returns, Cronenworth (who had a .949 OPS at Triple-A in 2019) provides a short-term fill-in that has positional flexibility depending on which site owners choose to roster him on.
