4 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins has gotten off to an underwhelming start during the shortened 2020 campaign. While his walk rate remains terrific (29%), Hoskins amassed just one extra-base hit in his first seven games, still searching for his first home run. The .167 xBA is a concern, as is the 68 OPS+. His gig as Philadelphia’s full-time first baseman seems fairly air tight, but prospect Alec Bohm may eventually become an intriguing backup plan if the slugging Hoskins can not find his form. Facing left-handed pitching may ignite Hoskins’ bat, as he mashed southpaws to the tune of a .980 OPS last season. He will face Atlanta’s Max Fried on Sunday and Sean Newcomb on Monday, giving him two prime opportunities to begin finding his groove.--Jesse Borek
