Oscar Mercado Not A Feasible Fantasy Asset In 2020
4 years agoCleveland Indians outfielder Oscar Mercado was a top 150 draft choice in most formats entering the 2020 season, but after his treacherous 13-game start, he can no longer be rostered in any sized format. It’s tough to have seen such a precipitous drop off coming from a player that hit 15 home runs and stole 15 bases while delivering a .794 OPS as a rookie. But Mercado has produced a staggering -18 OPS with five total bases in 43 plate appearances. His Statcast metrics aren’t any more encouraging; his xSLG (.226), wOBA (.133), xwOBA (.207), and xwOBAcon (.269), all rank in the bottom five percentile of hitters in the Majors. With nearly a quarter of the season played for most clubs, dropping anchor on draft choices that haven’t panned out becomes imperative, and Mercado fits that bill in his sophomore campaign.
