Giancarlo Stanton Likely Headed To IL With Hamstring Injury
4 years agoNew York Yankees outfielder Giancarlo Stanton left the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Rays due hamstring tightness. Manager Aaron Boone said after the game that he believes a stint on the 10-day injured list is in Stanton’s future. Stanton served as the designated hitter for both legs of the DH, having been replaced by Mike Ford. Myriad injuries have stunted Stanton’s success since joining New York, and following play Saturday, he had collected a 1.038 OPS over his first 41 at-bats. The .442 xwOBA that Stanton had amassed entering play placed him seventh in the Majors, while having produced a barrel 19.2% of the time. His absence will pave the way for many Yankees regulars to remain in the lineup while serving as the designated hitter, while recalling Miguel Andujar or Clint Frazier is also an option.
