4 years agoChicago Cubs outfielder/designated hitter Kyle Schwarber has little to show for his elite Statcast metrics to begin 2020. Schwarber is hitting just .222 with two home runs and 18 total bases to his credit, despite ranking 9th in the Majors in average exit velocity (94.3 MPH). Clobbering the ball has become Schwarber’s M.O., but the fact that he has been shifted a career-high 75.5% of the time indicates that defenses know where the hard hit ball is going. After a weekend off due to COVID-19 concerns surrounding the Cardinals, Schwarber won’t return to action until Tuesday at the earliest. Even when he gets back in the lineup, he’ll have to navigate a Cleveland starting staff that has produced a 2.24 ERA through its first 15 games.--Jesse Borek
