4 years agoChicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras is off to a torrid start in 2020, having mashed a 167 OPS+ in his first 13 games. The addition of the designated hitter in the National League has been a boon for his production as he has already served as the DH three times this year, giving him extra at-bats when not behind the dish. The 95.9 MPH average exit velocity that Contreras boasts ranks him third in the Majors, while 66.7% of the balls that he has put in play have been the hard hit variety, also the third-highest rate of any qualified batter. His bat has only been slowed by cancellations this weekend against St. Louis, but he gets back on the field Tuesday as he continues to anchor the middle of the Cubs’ order.--Jesse Borek
