4 years agoHouston Astros right-handed pitcher Justin Verlander has disputed that he will be shut down for the remainder of the 2020 season due to a right forearm injury that has kept him out since Opening Day. The next step in that process is for Verlander to begin throwing as soon as next week, per Brian McTaggart of MLB.com. Houston’s pitching staff has been pancaked by injuries during the first third of the year and getting Verlander back in any capacity would be a major boon. There’s no guarantee that the future Hall of Famer will be able to pitch again this season, but his attempt is certainly a step in the right direction. In leagues where he has already been dropped onto the waiver wire, holding him in an IL spot until the next update may be a precinct maneuver.--Jesse Borek
