Bryan Reynolds Stuck In Rut To Begin 2020
4 years agoPittsburgh Pirates outfielder Bryan Reynolds was such a steady bat in the heart of his club’s lineup last season that he not only forced his way onto most season-long rosters by the end of the year, but he earned himself considerable pomp heading into 2020. But things have not broken his way yet, entering Wednesday with a .189/.306/.283 slash line. Breaking pitches have been particularly flummoxing for Reynolds, as he has compiled a .119 xBA and .135 xSLG with a 45.2 Whiff%. While the sample size remains small, Reynolds’ struggles against right-handed pitching (.472 OPS) this year are in direct opposition to the numbers that he put up last year (.931). He isn’t likely to see his playing time reduced for a Pirates squad that is scuffling for runs, so patient owners can stick with him throughout the summer, while others may want to swap him out so long as the pre-season investment wasn’t prohibitive.
