4 years agoTexas Rangers catcher Robinson Chirinos will be out of the starting nine Wednesday against the Mariners and right-handed pitcher Taijuan Walker due to left ankle soreness. Chirinos’ absence paves the way for Jeff Mathis to make his second consecutive start behind the dish. The start of the 2020 year has not been kind to Chirinos, who ranks among the bottom five percent of all batters in the Majors with a .168 xBA, .250 xSLG, and .197 wOBA, which backs up his 18 OPS+ across 11 games. Even as catchers putting up considerable offensive production remain in scarcity across the game, Chirinos’ combination of ailment and metrics don’t bode well for production in the short-term.--Jesse Borek
