Rougned Odor Sits Wednesday, Derek Dietrich Makes 2020 Debut
4 years agoTexas Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Mariners and right-handed pitcher Taijuan Walker due to what manager Chris Woodward deemed a “mental break.” Odor’s absence paves the way for Derek Dietrich to make his season debut, having been signed last week after being released by the Cubs. While Dietrich isn’t a season-long commodity due to his lack of consistent playing time, he is a DFS candidate against righties, having mashed all 19 of his home runs from last year (.829 OPS) versus right-handed pitching. Odor is off to a freezing cold start at the dish, slashing just .116/.191/.209 across his first 12 games. His next chance to return to the lineup comes Friday at the hitter’s haven Coors Field against rookie righty Ryan Castellani, which could be the impetus for getting Odor’s bat on track.
