4 years agoSan Diego Padres first baseman Eric Hosmer was planned to have the day off Wednesday with Dodgers left-handed pitcher Julio Urias projected to start, but even after right-hander Tony Gonsolin was swapped in instead, Hosmer will remain out of the starting nine. Rookie Jake Cronenworth, who has forced his way into the lineup with his hot hitting (1.128 OPS), will take his place and man first while hitting fifth. Hosmer has been in a funk at the dish since returning from the injured list, going 1-for-12 with a pair of strikeouts. He should be available to pinch-hit off the bench with his next chance at getting back into the lineup coming Thursday when Urias is set to take the mound.--Jesse Borek
