Alex Gordon Could Face Playing Time Reduction In 2020
4 years agoKansas City Royals outfielder Alex Gordon has been a staple of the franchise since 2007, but manager Mike Matheny is reportedly eyeing the possibility of getting younger players into the lineup with an increased frequency. Gordon had mulled retirement in the off-season, but ultimately returned on a one-year deal; to this point, he is slashing .175/.254/.263 through his first 18 games. With Bubba Starling activated off the IL on Friday, that makes another outfielder to compete with Gordon for playing time moving forward. On his own merit, Gordon was likely a stretch for most season-long formats, but with KC possibly reducing his role, he can remain on the waiver wire for the time being.
