Jordan Montgomery Pitches Well In Rain-Shortened Start
4 years agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery held the Red Sox to one run over 3 2/3 innings with four strikeouts and no walks on Monday before a rain delay ended his start prematurely. The Red Sox struggled to make contact against Montgomery on Monday, with the pitcher generating an impressive 18% swinging-strike rate for the evening. Even the contact from the Red Sox was weak, with only two of Boston’s 10 batted balls against Montgomery coming off of the bat faster than 95 mph. Although he left Monday’s game with a middling 4.66 ERA, Montgomery posted a 3.88 ERA and 4.07 FIP in his last full major league season (2017), and he’s looked good so far this year with a velocity uptick and a 4.02 xERA. Fantasy players should expect Montgomery to be a decent if unexciting fantasy option over the rest of the season with an ERA below 4.00 and a strikeout rate of around 23%.
