Luke Voit Clubs Two Home Runs On Monday
4 years agoNew York Yankees first baseman Luke Voit hit two home runs against the Red Sox on Monday. Voit came into Monday’s game with a strong .867 OPS despite a higher than usual 33.3% strikeout rate for the season, and it’s come with a more aggressive plate approach. Voit is swinging at nearly everything inside of the strike zone with an 81.5% z-swing rate so far this season, and although his poor contact skills have led to a 19.1% swinging-strike rate, Voit’s increased aggressiveness on strikes has likely played a role in his superb contact quality (.602 xwOBA on contact). Fantasy players should expect Voit to post an OPS above .830 for the rest of the season even if his strikeout rate remains elevated, although ideally he’d maintain his improved contact quality while cutting down on his strikeout rate.
