4 years agoHouston Astros right-handed pitcher Justin Verlander threw off of flat ground Monday, the latest step in his attempted comeback from a right forearm strain that has shut him down since Opening Day. Astros pitching coach Brent Strom relayed that the session “went very well,” an indicator that Verlander did not have any injury maladies coming out of it. While initial reports had Houston’s ace done for the 2020 year, he hopes to make it back and avoid surgery. In season-long leagues where Verlander may have initially been dropped, owners with available IL spots can take a flier on him potentially getting back on the mound over the next six weeks.--Jesse Borek
