Mallex Smith Optioned To Club’s Alternate Training Site
4 years agoSeattle Mariners outfielder Mallex Smith has been demoted from the Major League roster amidst his slow start to the 2020 season. Just a year removed from leading the Majors in stolen bases (46), Smith has swiped just two bags in his first 14 games, having produced a lacking .133/.170/.178 slash line. The move presumably paves the way for Dee Gordon or Tim Lopes to see more at-bats, although Seattle’s fluctuating lineups make it uncertain which way manager Scott Servais could be leaning. Even with his extraordinary speed, Smith can now safely be dropped in all season-long formats as he’ll have to earn his way back onto the big league roster.
