J.D. Davis Blasts Homer In Mets Win
4 years agoNew York Mets third baseman/outfielder J.D. Davis went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and two walks in the Mets 8-3 win over Miami on Tuesday. Davis is now hitting .286 with four home runs and 12 RBI in 77 at-bats on the season. Davis broke out in 2019 in which he hit .307 with 22 home runs, scored 65 runs, and drove in 57 RBI. The Mets are trying to keep Davis' powerful bat in the lineup, primarily at third base, despite the fact that Robinson Cano, Dominic Smith, and Luis Guillorme are all swinging a hot bat. Davis, who looks much better defensively at third base than Jeff McNeil, should continue to get the bulk of the starts at the hot corner, while McNeil and Cano rotate between second base and designated hitter. That said, given the depth of the Mets infield, Davis (along with McNeil, Smith, Cano, Guillorme, Amed Rosario and Andres Gimenez) may cede some playing time to each other on a given day. Owners in weekly lineup leagues should be mindful that Davis may sit a game or two in any given week. Davis owners in daily lineup leagues (as well as DFS players) should remain diligent in checking posted lineups prior to game time.
