4 years agoNew York Mets relief pitcher Dellin Betances struggled on Wednesday retiring just two of the six batters he faced in the Mets' 5-3 win over Miami. Betances worked 2/3 innings pitched and allowed two earned runs, walked one, hit one batter, and yielded two hits. Before Wednesday's disaster, Betances had worked six straight scoreless appearances in a row. Despite his recent success, Betances' velocity is still not getting beyond 95 mph. As a result, Betances remains a volatile option out of the Mets bullpen, as exemplified on Wednesday. For the season, Betances owns a 6.00 ERA, a 1.56 WHIP and has just seven strikeouts against five walks in nine innings pitched. Notwithstanding his struggles, the door is open for Betances to see some save opportunities with Seth Lugo now moving to the rotation. If Betances can somehow find the velocity that made him a lockdown reliever with the Yankees, and get these control issues squared away, he could be in line for save chances when (not if) Edwin Diaz struggles in the closer role.--Nick Ritrivi - RotoBaller
