BALLER MOVE: Target Around ~170 Overall
CURRENT ADP: 180+ (Undrafted)
ANALYSIS: Green Bay Packers tight end Jace Sternberger had a disappointing rookie campaign, finishing the regular season without a catch while appearing in only six games due to injury. However, he did begin to show flashes of efficiency during the postseason by hauling in all three of his targets and scoring one touchdown.
The truth is that Green Bay relied heavily on veteran tight end Jimmy Graham during his second and last year in town targeting him 60 times. With Graham now in Chicago, the sophomore is the clear-cut no. 1 option at the position on the team's depth chart. While the team did select Josiah Deguara out of Cincinnati in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft, head coach Matt LaFleur indicated that Sternberger could get more snaps out of the slot in addition to lining up out wide as a receiver this season.
Not only is all of that promising, but Sternberger is part of an offense that boasts no more than one truly skilled player in WR Davante Adams surrounded by much worse receivers in the likes of Allen Lazard or Marquez Valdes-Scantling. While it is hard to envision Jace becoming a bonafide no. 2 receiving option after not being trusted that much as a rookie, chances are he carves a resounding role in Green Bay this year.
Fantasy GMs have absolutely forgotten about Sternberger and his starting, go-to role at the position for this season. He's currently the TE55 off draft boards yet he is projected as a low-end TE2 at the very least with the upside to finish as a high-end TE2 if Aaron Rodgers makes him an important part of the offense (and at the end of the day, will the QB have many more options?)
