Ryquell Armstead Should Be Lead Back In Jacksonville
4 years agoAfter the Jacksonville Jaguars released running back Leonard Fournette on Monday morning, the backfield for the Jags looks a lot more difficult to project. Gone is the workhorse lead back in Fournette, but that loss should lead to an expanded role for Ryquell Armstead, a second-year back out of Temple who should now be the lead back for the team. Armstead's 2019 numbers don't look great, as he had 35 carries for 108 yards, though he did add 14 catches for 144 yards and two scores. He might be more versatile than Fournette, though likely won't get the same high usage we've seen from the former lead back due to the addition of Chris Thompson. Still, Armstead is a huge fantasy riser with this release, and now has the upside to be a low-end RB2. Figuring out where to draft him can be tricky, especially with Devine Ozigbo getting some training camp hype, so don't just pencil Armstead into Fournette's ADP. Instead, I would draft him around where I'd take low-end RB3s or high-end RB4s.
