5 years agoThe Detroit Tigers have claimed right-handed pitcher Dereck Rodriguez off of the waiver wire Monday, rejoining him with the organization in which his father, Ivan, played for five seasons. Rodriguez had been designated for assignment by the Giants on Wednesday, having allowed 10 hits and six runs in four innings of relief this season. His most consistent success came in 2018 as a member of the starting rotation when he posted a 2.81 ERA in 21 appearances (19 starts). The Tigers initially have moved Rodriguez to their alternate training site, although his callup to the big league roster could come sooner rather than later with the club seeking ample pitching options.--Jesse Borek
