4 years agoMinnesota Twins catcher Alex Avila was scratched from the starting nine Wednesday against the White Sox and right-hander Reynaldo Lopez with Ryan Jeffers taking over behind the dish. Also out of the lineup is center fielder Byron Buxton, whom the team is just giving a day off after he returned from the IL on Tuesday. Minnesota’s catching situation has been grim offensively this year with Mitch Garver having missed time due to an oblique injury. As for Buxton, he’s likely in line to return to the field Friday when the Twins play a doubleheader versus the Tigers.--Jesse Borek
