4 years agoNew York Mets left-handed pitcher David Peterson threw four solid innings in relief in the Mets' 9-4 win over the Orioles on Wednesday. Peterson allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out one batter over his four innings of work. Peterson (4-1) now boasts a 3.03 ERA, a 1.21 WHIP, and 21 strikeouts in 29 2/3 inning pitched on the season. At this point, it remains unclear if Peterson will rejoin the starting rotation since manager Luis Rojas was non-committal to returning him to a starting role after the contest. It makes little sense for the Mets to place Peterson, arguably the Mets' second-best starting pitcher in 2020, into the bullpen given the lack of rotational depth and ineffectiveness of Michael Wacha and Rick Porcello. Then again, we are talking about the same dysfunctional team that moved their best reliever, Seth Lugo, into the starting rotation and that insists on continuing to use Edwin Diaz as their closer. Should Peterson inexplicably remain in the bullpen, his fantasy value takes a huge hit. Managers should monitor the situation since the Mets appear to be flying by the seat of their pants with no discernable plan in place. As such, Peterson could return to the rotation at a moment's notice.--Nick Ritrivi - RotoBaller
