Joey Gallo Sees Power Metrics Nosedive As Of Late
4 years agoTexas Rangers outfielder Joey Gallo has carved out his niche as a boom-or-bust hitter at the Major League level. The reality of being such a bat -- and for fantasy managers to roster such a bat -- is that when a cold spell strikes, it cripples production; in Gallo’s case, that’s been 2020 in a microcosm. Despite the fact that Gallo continues to barrel up balls at an elite rate (15.2%), he has gone homer-less in his last 12 contests, not having delivered an extra-base hit in that stretch. While batting average has never been Gallo’s strong suit, slugging has; but even his xSLG has cratered this year, sitting at .451, which is far below his career mark (.534). There exists perpetual upside when it comes to rostering Gallo in season-long or DFS formats, but as he has shown over the last few weeks, also considerable stretches of a lack of production.
