BALLER MOVE: Add in All Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 34% of leagues
ANALYSIS: We've reached that part of the season where any pitcher with a pulse is worth consideration for rostering in fantasy. Deivi Garcia certainly has a pulse and after two starts for the Yankees, has emerged as a viable fantasy option. Garcia has had contrasting fortunes in his two starts, with a stellar debut against the Mets (6.0 IP, 0 ER and 6 Ks) which was followed by a bit of a clunker against the Orioles on Friday (4.2 IP, 4 ER, 6 Ks). Two of the earned runs attributed to Garcia scored after he left the game when Clarke Schmidt relieved Garcia and struggled in his Major League debut. If the Yankees hadn't burned through their bullpen in game one of their Friday double-header, Garcia may have finished up notching his first Major League win.
Garcia's 12 strikeouts in 10.2 IP is what stands out and shouldn't come as a surprise given his career Minor League strikeout rate is 34.46% with 416 total strikeouts in 293.2 IP. The Yankees have a favourable schedule to finish the season with their remaining 22 games coming against Baltimore (6 games), Boston (3), Miami (3) and Toronto (10). The big issue is Garcia has only featured as the 29th man in double-headers so far, but the Yankees rotation has struggled with Gerrit Cole and Masahiro Tanaka being the only starters with a sub-4.50 ERA this year leaving the door open for Garcia to get another 3-4 starts this year. Garcia is definitely worthy of rostering in all all fantasy leagues.
