Masahiro Tanaka Takes Second Loss Of Season
4 years agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Masahiro Tanaka took his second loss of the season on Sunday after allowing four runs (two earned) over 5.1 innings against the Orioles. Under the hood, Tanaka’s slider was fantastic and generated 10 whiffs (23% swinging-strike rate), and his 19% swinging-strike rate for the game was excellent. Tanaka wasn’t even hit particularly hard with only five hard-hit balls allowed (29% hard-hit rate), and the Yankee defense was a significant contributor to his relatively poor overall results. Sunday’s start pushed Tanaka’s ERA to 3.38, and fantasy players should expect the 31-year-old to maintain an ERA below 3.70 over the rest of the season.
