Andres Gimenez Emerging As Starting Shortstop For Mets
4 years agoNew York Mets infielder Andres Gimenez started in the fourth straight game over Amed Rosario on Monday and went 2-for-4 with two runs scored in the Mets' 9-8 loss to the Phillies. Gimenez, who also had a number of incredible defensive gems in the contest, appears to have taken over the starting shortstop role from Rosario, at least temporarily. Gimenez, who is heating up once again at the plate, is now boasting a .293/.344/.402 line to go with one home run, eight RBI, seven stolen bases, and 16 runs scored in 90 plate appearances on the season. Gimenez had been struggling recently, but his redraft fantasy value has quickly recovered in short order thanks to a hot bat and the Mets' intention to give him regular playing time, despite a number of infield options on their roster. Managers should continue to roll with Gimenez who has upside in the stolen base, average and runs scored departments.
