Sean Newcomb Rejoins Roster, Robbie Erlin DFA’d
4 years agoThe Atlanta Braves are bringing back left-handed pitcher Sean Newcomb from the club’s alternate training site, designating southpaw Robbie Erlin to make room on the active roster. Newcomb last appeared for Atlanta on Aug. 10, and has been walloped in four starts this season with 17 runs allowed in 13 ⅔ frames. But after Erlin yielded five in 1 ⅔ IP during Thursday’s start, the club was forced to look elsewhere for production. In nine appearances with Atlanta, Erlin struck out 25 batters in 26 ⅔ IP, but also posted an 8.10 ERA. Newcomb has displayed success in the rotation (3.90 ERA in 2018) and in the bullpen (3.16 ERA in ‘19) in the past, although what he brings to the table over the final two-plus weeks remains up in the air from a fantasy perspective.
