Ryan McBroom Gets Optioned To Club’s Alternate Site
4 years agoKansas City Royals first baseman/designated hitter Ryan McBroom was optioned to the club’s alternate training site prior to Saturday’s contest against the Pirates. The team called up No. 28 prospect per MLB Pipeline, Kelvin Gutierrez, to take McBroom’s spot on the roster, with the youngster set to backup Maikel Franco at the hot corner. McBroom had initially formed a first-base platoon with Ryan O’Hearn, having compiled a .784 OPS in 79 plate appearances. But with just one hit in his last 20 at-bats, and his playing time on the downturn, Kansas City will look elsewhere for right-handed pop off the bench, effectively ending any fantasy intrigue that McBroom had in 2020.
