Jordan Montgomery Picks Up Career-High Nine Strikeouts
4 years agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery held the Orioles to one run (zero earned) over 5.2 innings with a career-high nine strikeouts on Saturday. Montgomery was really firing on all cylinders on Saturday, generating 15 swinging strikes over 72 pitches (21% swinging-strike rate) and allowing only two hard-hit balls. Montgomery has shifted away from his cutter over his past two starts even as the pitch owns an arsenal-best .231 xwOBA, and that adjustment is worth watching over his last few starts this year. Still, Montgomery owns a 4.76 ERA for the season, and fantasy managers shouldn’t rely on Montgomery for production over the rest of the year.
