Patriots Won't Be Reckless With Cam Newton
4 years agoNew England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton enjoyed an impressive debut against the Miami Dolphins in Week 1, completing 15 of 19 passes for 155 yards and running for 75 yards and two scores. He looked like a threat out of the backfield again, opening up the playbook possibilities for New England in their post-Tom Brady era. With that being said, New England doesn't want to be reckless with Newton, who is 31 and coming off of foot and shoulder injuries. The Patriots wanted other teams to respect Newton's duel-threat ability, though they probably won't run him like that every week. Still, Newton has shown in the past that he can be an accurate passer, so he'll still be in the QB1 range moving forward.
