4 years agoNew York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso went 0-for-4 in the Mets' 2-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday. Alonso is now in a 2-for-34 slump which has lowered his average all the way down to .202 on the season. Coming off of a breakout rookie campaign in 2019, it was anticipated that there would be some regression for Alonso this season. It was not, however, expected that Alonso would struggle this much. The 2020 season has been a huge disappointment for Alonso and for those managers who expended a great deal of draft capital to roster him. Overall, Alonso has posted a .202/.298/.415 line with 12 home runs and 27 RBI. While he has, at times, shown signs of a breakout, Alonso has been unable to maintain the same consistency that led to his monster 52 HR, 120 RBI season a year ago. As the season comes to an end, unless managers have another viable option at first base, they should remain patient for these final six games and hope that Alonso could bust out against the Rays or Nationals for a couple of homers and some RBI.--Nick Ritrivi - RotoBaller
